Where's the Clarity?!

In today's go,go,go world most of us don't know which end is up anymore. We operate on a messed up autopilot that has us going in all sorts of directions...with no direction!

It leaves us feeling like we have no clarity and living in a fog bank.

How do we fix it? We have to simplify things.

I've got 10 suggestions for you that will bring clarity into your busy world. If you find something that is working for you, please share in the comments below.

  1. Create Space: Your mind has to process everything that crosses your field of vision. If your home or office is cluttered and messy, clean it up. You can't work effectively or live thoughtfully surrounded in chaos. This creates Brain Fog and overwhelm. Clear the clutter at least a few times a month, if not every week.

  2. Identify what matters: Write down your passion statements for work, family and life. We all have something that keeps up connected and gets us out of bed every morning. What really matters to you? Identifying these are a must, not a maybe.

  3. Do one thing at a time: When you are with family, BE with them. When you are writing, write. Emailing? Just email. Exercising? Be intentional and stay connected to the movements instead of stressing about life. It will still be there when you are done.

  4. Eliminate distractions: You may be so used to the beeps and dings from your phone and computer that you don't know how distracted you are. It can take up to 15+ minutes for you to recover from even the smallest distraction. Turn off the alerts and notifications while working or with family. Facebook and emails will still be there when you go back to them.

  5. Eat Well: Brain fog feeds on sugar, caffeine and extreme low carb diets. The brain needs complex carbs to function (brown rice, oats, potatoes, fruits & veggies). To start reducing your sugar and caffeine intake, start substituting fresh, whole foods, one at a time. Eventually you will crowd out the bad with your better choices. The more you work at this, the clearer your brain and the fewer cravings you will fall victim to.

  6. Get Quiet: Literally....Be Quiet. Just sit. In silence. Listen to the "noise" of the silence. 5-15min. every day. This opens your mind and removes mental chatter. If your brain won't "shut off", try listening to one the many meditation tracks you can find on YouTube.

  7. Write to get clear: Try spending 5min. every night offloading your day into a journal. Maybe even write about what you want more clarity on, even if you don't know how to get it yet. By doing this sort of "brain dump" every night, your subconscious will have the space to figure out the other things you need help with, while you're sleeping.

  8. Experiment: You don't know what you don't know. You may not know what foods will make you feel great until you try something. You don't know what kind of movement or exercise you will enjoy enough to do consistently, until you try out a few things. Get out of your comfort zone and start experimenting. It will be like dating yourself!

  9. Put your ass where your heart wants to be: You want to write a book? Sit down at the computer and eventually your fingers will start typing. Want to learn pottery? Sign up for a class at the local college. Have a passion for horses? Start connecting with your online and local horse groups. If you heart has a desire, it's as simple as taking one easy step towards it.

  10. Always challenge your "nevers": When you hear yourself say "I could never do that", many times we live and die by this statement because we are afraid of failing or getting hurt. I hear this statement a lot from my sugar-addicted clients. The idea of giving up sugar creates a huge fear of loss and failure in many...Until they start expanding their comfort zones and start recognizing that something that once felt impossible is now attainable.

Simplicity comes with amazing benefits and absolute clarity is at the top of the list! When you can simplify things and reduce the clutter in your physical and emotional life, you will start to innately know what your body needs and your heart wants and how to make it happen.

Get clear on what matters by getting rid of everything that doesn't!
